Montana Resident Transfer Scholarships
Montana State University offers a limited number of scholarships and awards to admitted transfer students. These awards are only available to students working toward their first bachelor's degree.

Resident Transfer Premier Scholarships Fall 2026:
Resident Transfer Premier Scholarships are merit-based awards for Montana resident transfer students seeking their first bachelor's degree at Montana State University. Students must be admitted to MSU and have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater at their previous institutions to receive this award.
The Resident Transfer Premier Scholarship is worth $1,500 per year (renewable for up to 3 years). This award is designated for tuition only.
To retain the Resident Transfer Premier Scholarship, students must maintain:
- continuous enrollment with 15 or more credits per semester
- a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater
- resident status for tuition purposes
For consideration, please complete the following steps:
- Apply for admission to Montana State University.
- Send your official college transcripts to the MSU Office of Admissions.
Official transcripts can be sent through a secure electronic transcript service (Parchment, National Student Clearinghouse, etc.) or mailed directly from the institution to the MSU Office of Admissions.
Physical copies of official final transcripts should be mailed to:

Transcripts sent through unsecured email attachments, mailed in unsealed envelopes, or faxed will be considered unofficial with the exception of transcripts faxed directly from another Montana University System institution with a MACRAO-fax stamp.
FAFSA
MSU aims to make a college education affordable. The FAFSA priority deadline is December 1, 2025. We encourage all students to apply in order to be considered for federal grants, work-study, and student and parent loans, so that we can best meet your financial needs. Need and non-need based aid programs are available. Filing the FAFSA will give you consideration for all financial assistance programs at Montana State University. Our MSU school code is 002532. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.gov.
Scholarship Deferment
Please be aware that MSU new student Premier, Achievement Award, Transfer and WUE scholarships are not deferrable and will be awarded to you for a specific start term that matches the start term on your application for admission. Scholarship parameters change every year.
