Bio:
Liv Wheeler is a Master's student at Montana State University working with Dr. Madison Myers. Liv was raised in Michigan, surrounded by the Great Lakes and constantly exposed to the outdoors. She graduated from Michigan State University in 2024 with a B.S. in Environmental Geosciences, a concentration in Geophysics, and a minor in Digital Humanities. She was accepted into Montana State University in the spring of 2024 for a Master’s in Geology and Volcanology with Dr. Myers. Her research focuses on Yellowstone National Park, with a heavy field elements project exploring the relationships between effusive lava flows, newly found explosive units, and explosive caldera-forming eruptions. This project requires field mapping of the Madison Junction area, where a new explosive intracaldera unit was found that consequently divides the unit, it is dated. Using field mapping, geochemical and isotopic analyses, her research aims to understand these relationships, which will help for remapping efforts and understanding Yellowstone’s dynamic system.
