The Crawford Wildlife Habitat Scholarship is available for all eligible graduate students to apply to each year; deadline this is March 15 for 2025. To be considered eligible, you should be engaged in or interested in conducting research, education, outreach and/or creative activities and are interested in a career in wildlife habitat areas. See this link for the MSU Today press release. If you feel you fall into this category, you should read further on the qualifications and consider applying. Applicants will be reviewed by a committee representing all the colleges on campus. There may also be an opportunity that the recipients of this scholarship will become part of a larger community. 
Required Qualifications:
  • Open to all MSU graduate students (masters/doctoral) engaged in research, outreach or creative activities related to wildlife habitat.
  • Must apply by March 15, 2025; no applications will be considered after this date.
  • Needs to be in good academic standing.
  • Must be a continuing student for the terms of the award.
  • Applicants for this scholarship must write a one page paper answering the following: 
    "Describe how you are contributing to expanding our understanding of wildlife habitat through research, outreach, education, or creative activity."
Award Information:
  • The recipients of this scholarship will receive $5,000 each semester to their student account (fall/spring; masters and doctoral students only).
  • They will be required to write a 'thank you' letter to the Crawford family once they have received the award. Instructions on this process will be provided by Cat$cholarships.
  • This funding can be combined with other funding the student may receive from the university (i.e., GTA/GRA, professional funding), our outside the university. 
  • The funds will be deposited into the awarded students' accounts by the 10th class day. The scholarship will cover student fees, tuition, and other attendance costs. Any remaining funds will be refunded to the student, in the manner the student has set up in their personal account.
  • These are annual awards; eligible students are able to re-apply each year; master's students can receive the award for up to three (3) years; doctoral students for up to five (5) years.
  • Starting in 2026, to re-apply for this scholarship, you will do so through CAT-Scholarships (link will be provided by Fall 2025).

Please write one page, single spaced and answer the following question: "Describe how you are contributing to expanding our understanding of wildlife habitat through research, outreach, education, or creative activity." Before you submit, be sure you have the following information in the upper right hand corner: 

  • Last Name, First name, Middle Name
  • GID (new applicants to the Graduate School will need to work with the faculty/departments for consideration)
  • Graduate Program
  • Degree dpartment
  • Degree Level (Masters/Doctoral)
  • Credit Level (including Spring term)
  • Intended graduation term
  • Title of your project
Award Notices:

All applicants will receive a response via email. Award notices will be delivered by email within a few months of a committee review.
