MIE Writing Exemption Policy
The Mechanical & Industrial Engineering Department (M&IE) programs each have a writing course requirement as part of the curriculum. M&IE students must complete an intensive writing course totaling 3 or more credits.
Preapproved Courses to Meet This Requirement Are:
WRIT 101W | College Writing I |
WRIT 201W | College Writing II |
WRIT 221 | Intermediate Technical Writing |
HONR 202IH | Text & Critics (Only if not being used for IH Core) |
HONR 400-409 | Honors Seminar (Only if not being used for IS or IH core or for EGEN 310R requirement) |
Students exempt from MSU writing requirement must still meet the minimum credit requirement for their degree. The additional credits needed should be satisfied by taking college-level free electives.
We encourage you to choose carefully these college-level free electives to feed your passions, identify new interests, explore new disciplines, take risks, and make your degree even more valuable. Recommended below are some of the courses for you to consider. This list is not an exhaustive list but is designed to get you started.
