We want to help you make your next event on Campus a Zero Waste Event! Hosting Zero Waste Events is a great way to do your part in reducing environemtnal impact on Campus while helpign to engage a larger campus audience with sustainable efforts!

Reduce your event waste

Opt for reusable, compostable, and recycable products 

  • Email sustainability@montana.edu when planning your event
  • Please reach out at least two weeks in advance to your event 
  • We will work with Catering Services at MSU to find the best path forward
  • Start by reducing the amount of single use decorations 
  • If you will be handing out 'swag', opt for durable, usuable items
  • Rent out reusuable service ware from the Univeristy 
  • Catering Services at MSU has reusable, compostable, and reycable material available.
  • Always opt or ask for all reusable & compostable items
  • If you have questions, always ask!

Ways to connect with vollunteers

  • The Office of Sustainability and Faciltities Services can assist with a waste collection plan for your event.
  • Make sure all bins are paired with signage & all options avaliable at event (trash, recycling, compost, etc).
  • Always include specific building custodial & managerial staff for best location & availability.
  • The Office of Sustainability can provide training for your event to staff and vendors
  • For large events, assigning members to help inform guests at waste stations can prove benefical
  • Marketing your event as a Zero Waste Event can grow attendance and increase awareness for attending members before the event.
  • Reach out to the Office of Sustainability if at-event assistance is wanted
  • Connecting with Cat Serve through the Office of Student Engagement is a great way to involve registered student orginzations on Campus with impactful vollunteer oppurtunities
