Kester School is a one-room country school located 26 miles Northeast of Jordan, MT, on an all-weather gravel road.  Due to the remote location of the school, teacher must be able to obtain valid driver license and their own transportation.  The school is rooted in the middle of an agriculture community that also has amazing access to recreational areas for hunting, fishing, and hiking.  The school district was established in 1930, with various buildings and moves transpiring over the years.  The current building and location of the school has been here since the mid 1960’s.   Over recent years the school has been through several renovations, anywhere from new siding and windows to a mono-slab heated floor.  The school also had an addition built on to it that added a lunch/multi-purpose room and library/OT room.  There are many technological advances incorporated in the school as well.  All students have their own I-pad and computer, there is a Smart Board, and every few years new curriculum is purchased to keep up with the Standards.  School is a four-day week with a current enrollment of one student.

Housing provided is an unfurnished 2015 Shultz 16 x 80 three bedroom, two bath mobile home, with central air, and an attached mudroom close to the school, utilities included.  Housing is fenced separately from the school yard.  There is also an unattached one car garage available for use.  The housing is also pet friendly upon of the approval of the school district.

DUTIES:

Periodically instruct and drill students as to proper exit and manner of leaving building

in case of fire

Keep a record of daily schoolwork and grade pupils accordingly

Inform parent by first part of second semester if any pupil is in danger of being retained

Be in direct supervision of pupils at all times during recesses and lunch hour

In-service training participation as recommended by County Superintendent

Notify the board and superintendent in writing of any major classroom or disciplinary

problems

 Work with other teachers in planning field trips, programs and other school functions

Job Description

  1. Check and maintain all fire extinguishers full and certified including buses. Sign off monthly.
  2. Check all smoke detectors and maintain as necessary.
  3. Check and maintain all interior and exterior lighting to include emergency and exit lights.
  4. Note and maintain building repairs / maintenance.
  5. Note and maintain all playground maintenance.
  6. Replace furnace filters monthly.
  7. Check maintain First Aide cabinets in school and buses.
  8. Perform minor repairs and maintenance on building grounds and equipment as necessary or directed by the School Board / District Clerk.
  9. Comply with all safety and insurance inspections recommendations.
  10. Any other maintenance duties as addressed by teacher, District Clerk and/or School District Board.

*Hours vary from month to month earning $18/hr. with the option of PERS.
