Insights for Canvas Outcomes
Insights for Canvas Outcomes is an analytics and assessment tool that helps instructors and departments better understand student learning over time. By connecting Canvas outcomes, rubrics, and assignment assessment data to interactive dashboards and reports, Insights provides a clearer picture of how students are progressing toward learning goals.
Note: All core courses are required to use Canvas Insights. This means outcomes must be aligned to assignments and assessed using rubrics to generate meaningful data.
For Core courses, data appears in Insights after instructors complete the following steps:
- Add Outcomes to the Canvas course
- Attach Outcomes to assignment rubrics
- Use the rubric to assess student work during grading
- Insights only generates data from Outcomes that are actively used in rubric-based assessment.
This process allows instructors and departments to view trends in student performance, monitor outcome mastery, and support ongoing assessment and accreditation efforts.
Because each part of the process builds on the previous step, this guide is organized into phases that reflect the typical workflow within a course.
