Academic Advising Award
Description
This award recognizes one professional or classified primary-role academic advisor at Montana State University who has made significant contributions to academic advising and who champions student success.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this award, nominees must be a permanent professional or classified staff member whose primary duties are academic advising with a 0.5 - 1.0 FTE. Nominees must also have been in their advising-focused position at MSU for at least one year.
Faculty academic advisers, graduate student advisors, previous winners and members of the selection committee are not eligible for this award.

Nominations should include examples of the candidate's abilities and strengths in meeting the criteria below. These criteria reflect MSU's advising goals and the Core Values of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), the professional organization for Academic Advisors.
Nomination letters should be limited to five pages and are encouraged to include support from students. Please share names of nominator(s) in your nomination, as we would like to share the nomination materials with the nominees.
Selection Criteria
• Strong interpersonal skills, including a caring attitude toward advisees, faculty,
and staff.
• Commitment to engage in developmental advising as compared to prescriptive advising.
• Skill in guiding and supporting the student’s journey and academic development.
• Reliable and consistent availability to advisees.
• Support for student progress toward graduation and career goals.
• Demonstrated outreach and initiatives to support student success.
Award
The award recipient will receive a certificate and cash award.
