Listserv
Add / Remove Request
To enhance networking among local government administrative professionals and elected officials, the MSU Local Government Center hosts a variety of listservs for local government associations to provide a forum for peer and colleague information exchange.
The LGC team monitors the listservs and will respond when possible. However, monitoring involves thousands of weekly emails across the various listservs. If you have a specific question for one of the LGC team members, please direct that question:
Any listserv additions or removal requests can be submitted through the link on this page.
Listserv usage
- Comments posted to the listserv are public record.
- The listserv is a professional and information-based service and posted comments should reflect appropriate professionalism.
- The use of the listserv to solicit support for or opposition to any political committee, the nomination or election of any person to public office, or the passage of a ballot issue is prohibited by MCA 2-2-121(3)(a).
How to send and reply to a listserv email
Compose your email using standard professional email format. Include your question, request for help, or information to share with the group.

If responses are of interest to the entire list, reply to the listserv email so everyone can benefit. Hitting the “Reply” button sends the response to the entire list.
Add the sender’s e-mail address and remove the list email when sending personal replies to specific individuals rather than to the entire list.
Include a descriptive subject line. E-mails received with no subject line may be perceived as spam by an email filter and be deleted before reaching the recipient’s inbox.
Please note, you must be a member of a list to send and receive emails. Membership is limited to the professionals in those roles. If you think you need access to a list you are not professionally affiliated with, you may submit a membership request. Include the reasons for your request.
Maintaining listserv access
You are only able to reply to the listserv from the e-mail account that has been set up for you. Please submit any email change requests or add/remove requests through this form…. Make sure to include your current email as well as your new one for any updates and include the email for any add/remove requests.
Troubleshooting
If you're experiencing listserv email delivery/receipt issues, try the following:
- Check your spam/junk folder to make sure your organization's web security isn't preventing email delivery.
- Check with your IT department or email service provider. Delivery/receipt issues often occur because service providers reject the listname@sympa.montana.edu address.
- Submit a help request. Sometimes, removing and re-adding your email can fix the issue.
- If none of these steps helps, please let us know. We'll submit a ticket to MSU IT for potential solutions.
