What does a dental hygienist do?
Dental hygienists play a vital role in maintaining patients’ oral health. On a typical day, a dental hygienist might perform teeth cleaning and polishing, examine patients for signs of cavities and disease and coach patients on techniques for proper brushing and flossing. Some dental hygienists may also take x-rays. Working in dental offices, they interact with people every day and help patients feel comfortable while providing care to keep smiles healthy.
Dental Hygiene Degree Program Overview
The dental hygiene program at Great Falls College results in a two-year associate degree. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be prepared to take the National Dental Hygiene Board Examination, which is required to become a licensed dental hygienist. Graduates will also need to earn a license in the state where they plan to practice by successfully passing a regional practical exam.
