College – and life – can be expensive and with everything going on in your life, it can be challenging to budget for your education. Forge: Pathways & Belonging is proud to offer four scholarships that may work for your unique circumstances.

All scholarships feature funds deposited into your student account to help offset the cost of attending MSU or Gallatin College and a variety of resources that will enable you to create and meet your goals, including:

  • One-on-one and group meetings with Forge Access Advisors and Forge Connectors centered around being successful in your classes, goal setting, career ideation, and work-life balance.
  • Access to a variety of personal and professional development workshops and presenters.
  • Access to all Forge: Pathways & Belonging programs and opportunities.

All scholarships are administered through Cat Scholarships. If you have not already submitted an application, do it today at montana.academicworks.com. If you meet the required qualifications for the below scholarships, you will be notified and sent to the supplementary online application.

Return to Learn Scholarship
Are you returning to MSU or Gallatin College after taking a break from college? If so, you may qualify for a Return to Learn Scholarship. This scholarship supports undergraduate students who are returning to college after taking a break for two semesters or more. This scholarship is awarded on a rolling basis and offers a two-semester award.

Required Qualifications

  • More than two semesters away from college (any college).
  • Demonstrate some financial need.
  • Be an undergraduate student at either MSU Bozeman or Gallatin College without a previous bachelor’s degree.
  • Must be enrolling in at least six credits.
  • No minimum GPA requirements.
  • Can be a resident or non-resident student.
  • Can be enrolled entirely online.
  • Suspended Reinstated students are invited to apply.


Path to Purpose Scholarship
Are you an Adult Learner just beginning your college experience? The Path to Purpose scholarship is here to support your journey. This scholarship is awarded for two semesters beginning in the fall.

Required Qualifications

  • Pursuing your first college degree at either MSU Bozeman or Gallatin College.
  • Have never attended any college before. 
  • Must be enrolling in at least six credits.
  • Can be a resident or non-resident student.
  • Can be enrolled entirely online.
  • Demonstrate some financial need.


Montana’s Own ScholarshipSam
The Montana’s Own Scholarship supports MSU juniors who graduated from a Montana high school or equivalent, and reflects MSU’s land-grant mission to invest in Montanans and their communities. The scholarship begins junior year – a pivotal transition into advanced coursework, internships, and leadership opportunities – when students face unique challenges and need student-centered support. The scholarship helps remove financial barriers and empowers juniors to persist toward graduation with purpose.

Required Qualifications

  • A junior or entering junior year (60+ credits).
  • Graduated from a Montana high school or the Montana HiSET/GED/Equivalent.
  • Have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Full-time enrollment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High financial need, academic, and/or professional career barriers
  • First Generation student


The Homestretch Scholarship
The Homestretch Scholarship supports MSU seniors who are nearing graduation and who face significant barriers and need individualized, wholistic support to finish strong. The scholarship supports individual goal setting and a community building and belonging opportunities. 

Required Qualifications

  • A senior or entering senior year (90+ credits).
  • High financial need, academic, and/or professional career barriers.
  • Have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Full-time enrollment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • First-generation student.

Planning to take classes during summer semester? Want to stay motivated and purpose-driven? Want to brush up on skills? Need a little extra financial or social support while you attend classes? The Stay the Course Summer Program has you covered.

Participants in the program can receive:

  • Scholarship funds to help defray the cost of summer courses.
  • Group and one-on-one workshops.
  • Social and networking events.
  • Special speakers and presentations.
