ASMSU Events Team is the student program board that works to bring MSU students an array of fun and valuable activities and events on and off campus, including concerts, comedy shows, trivia nights, motivational speakers, and more.

The ASMSU Events Team Director is a Student Director working with the Associated Students of MSU (ASMSU-the student government association serving as the elected voice of MSU-Bozeman students). ASMSU Student Directors work under the umbrella of the Office of Student Engagement and are responsible for managing programs for students and the campus community-in this case, campus events. Their programs and positions (ASMSU Events Team) are paid for by student fee dollars.

Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Responsible for leading and carrying out the mission of ASMSU
  • Attend weekly office hours (20hours/week).
  • Serve as direct supervisor to 3 student ASMSU Events Team Directors, 1 ASMSU Events Team Marketing Associate, and 2 ASMSU Events Team General Associates. Conduct 1 -1 meetings twice a semester to provide guidance and mentorship.
  • Organize and co-lead ASMSU Events Team orientation and retreats.
  • Organize and facilitate weekly ASMSU Events Team meetings and manage meeting records and agendas.
  • Lead the ASMSU Events Team to bring new and innovative events to
  • Provide strategic direction and vision on ASMSU Events Team events and delegate tasks to ASMSU Events Team members to ensure successful event organization and execution.
  • Facilitate and create event learning outcomes and experience planning.

  • Meet 1:1 with ASMSU Vice President and/or Student Engagement and Leadership Advisor at least monthly and attend weekly admin meetings as requested.
  • Assist with the interview process and hiring of the ASMSU Events Team members.
  • Assist OSE staff in presenting OSE at Orientations, MSU Fridays, in classrooms, and at other events as needed.
  • Help track hours for the rest of the team by ensuring they are working their full set of hours.

  • Ability to set up and tear down AV equipment

ASMSU Arts and Exhibits features contemporary art and ideas to educate and challenge MSU students and the community through exhibitions, films, lectures, and workshops in the visual arts.

The Arts and Exhibits Director is responsible for the curation, planning, and oversight of all exhibitions and artistic programming within the gallery. The Director works closely with artists, staff, and the community to create engaging and meaningful experiences for visitors.

  • Leading a jury selection of artists once per year for the following year’s show
    schedule. 
  • Coordinating installations by communicating with the selected artists to realize
    their vision in a way that fits within the space and our abilities. 
  • Assisting with the installation and deinstallation of shows.

  • Creating the schedule of attendants every semester. 
  • Ensuring the overall vision and quality of exhibitions align with the program’s
    mission.

The Assistant Director supports the Arts and Exhibits Director in the planning and
execution of gallery exhibitions and programs by taking on the responsibility of any
auxiliary tasks that the Director delegates.

Art Gallery Attendants monitor the gallery space to ensure the safety of the artwork, track visitor numbers, and answer basic questions related to the gallery and its current
exhibit. The position allows for independent work, including doing homework and personal projects while maintaining attentiveness of the space.

Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Monitoring the gallery space to ensure the safety of the art.
  • Tracking visitor numbers by tallying each visitor in the log book.
  • Answering basic questions related to the gallery and current exhibits.
  • Keeping the gallery tidy and reporting any issues to staff.

The Communications team will ensure the Office of Student Engagement (OSE) has a cohesive marketing brand. ASMSU Student Government, Community Engagement, Student Organizations, and Campus Events and Programs will be equally represented through consistent and widespread marketing. The student voice and student-created content will be at the forefront of all messaging and public relations. This team model will enable program directors to focus on running their programs and will remove marketing from their daily tasks.

Time Commitment: 20 hours/week

Duties and Responsibilities:   

  • Develop and lead a comprehensive, consistent marketing and communications strategy promoting all ASMSU programs, activities, and events.   
  • Centralize and steward ASMSU branding to ensure clear understanding of the organization’s mission, services, and impact among MSU students.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, and manage Communications Team personnel.  
  • Oversee the creation, purchasing, and distribution of ASMSU promotional items and materials.
  • Represent ASMSU at major promotional events including Orientation, MSU Friday, Catapalooza, and other campus-wide initiatives.
  • Present, coordinate, and advocate for communications funding and budget requests at ASMSU Senate meetings.

  • Support the planning, recording, and production of ASMSU digital media content, including recurring video series such as Malone Mall Mondays.
  • Assist with photography and videography coverage for ASMSU outreach efforts, events, and campaigns.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Digital Strategy to support content execution and learn strategic decision-making behind ASMSU’s digital presence.
  • Help capture and organize photo and video assets for use across ASMSU social media platforms and communications channels.
  • Assist with basic video editing, content formatting, and media organization as needed.
  • Participate in brainstorming and content-planning conversations to better understand digital media strategy and audience engagement.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills: 

  • Prior experience or strong interest in photography and/or videography.

  • Lead the development and execution of graphic design requests that align with ASMSU and MSU Communications branding guidelines and policies.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all graphic design requests, managing intake, prioritization, and delegation to Graphics Associates.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop Graphics Associates, unifying varied styles and skill levels into a cohesive ASMSU brand identity throughout the term.
  • Evaluate, adjust, and advocate for the annual Communications budget in collaboration with the Director of Communications at ASMSU Senate meetings.
  • Organize and facilitate graphic design team meetings as needed to ensure workflow alignment and quality standards.

Description: The Elections Director manages the ASMSU Elections program. Elections authority is vested in the Supreme Court in consultation with the Elections Director. The Elections Director plans and administers the election process, coordinates candidate services and communications, and ensures elections comply with the Elections Policy Manual (EPM), the ASMSU Constitution, and the ASMSU Bylaws.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administer the Elections program budget, including preparing and presenting annual, supplemental, and the reserve budget requests to the Finance Board and Senate.

This is a non-lobbying position; the Director facilitates legislative strategy, civic engagement, and student advocacy but does not personally register or act as a lobbyist.

ASMSU is the student government association serving as the elected voice of the students of Montana State University-Bozeman with the mission of enhancing the overall educational experience of students by providing leadership and employment opportunities for students and by providing diverse student oriented non-academic programs and services cost effectively through responsible fiscal management of student activity fees.  

ASMSU Senate is the legislative body of the Associated Students of Montana State University (ASMSU). All legislative powers of ASMSU are vested in the Senate. All enrolled students, taking more than 7 credit hours, are welcome and qualified for a seat on the Senate. Voting membership consists of 21 voting Senators and the Senate President who can only vote to break ties.  

ASMSU Senate allocates the student activity fees to ASMSU programs and initiatives through annual budgeting each spring semester. It’s your job to decide how the students want their money budgeted, the causes the student body supports, and the issues that are most important.  

Description: The ASMSU Senate Speaker coordinates all meetings of the ASMSU Senate and touches everything that goes through the student government of Montana State. The Speaker crafts meeting agendas, informs Senators of actions, and runs the meetings themselves in accordance with standard parliamentary procedure. The Speaker supports and coordinates the efforts of the other 20 members of the ASMSU Senate in all they do. The Speaker also serves as a member of the Administrative Council, informing and assisting the executives in Senate actions.

  • Must be elected as an ASMSU Senator. Must be a full-time enrolled MSU-Bozeman student (at least 7 credits per semester) or pay activity fee. Be in good academic standing/above a 2.0 GPA.

Description: The Business Manager holds a highly important role within ASMSU. In broad terms, the
Business Manager is in charge of overseeing all money that flows in and out of ASMSU. This
includes maintaining an organized budget, attending a Finance Board, keeping up with program
spending, and other fiduciary duties. When students, advisors, or anyone else have financial
questions, the Business Manager is the person who will answer.

Description: The role of the Assistant Business Manager is to support the Business Manager with various projects and tasks. As well as working closely with ASMSU Program Directors through biweekly check-ins to update expenses, track budgets, and inform them of their financial status, activating reallocations when needed. This position carries out budget and fiscal responsibilities including the daily monitoring of the Assistant Business Manager email, attending finance board meetings, and monitoring of the supplemental and reserve requests. Additional responsibilities include gaining the knowledge of ASMSU financial policies, fees, and anything needed to fulfill the mission of ASMSU.

Description: The Chief Justice serves as a member of the Judicial Branch and as the primary authority on compliance within ASMSU by reviewing and interpreting the ASMSU Constitution and Bylaws. The Chief Justice leads the ASMSU Supreme Court’s six Associate Justices, conducting the Court’s meetings and issuing Judicial Ruling Reports when necessary. The Chief Justice also serves as a non-voting, ex-officio member of the ASMSU Administrative Council, reviews student appeals, and oversees ASMSU Elections.

Eligibility:

  • Must be an enrolled student at MSU-Bozeman and pay the Student Activity Fee (must either be enrolled as a full-time student or opt-in to pay the fee).
  • Must be in good academic standing (a minimum 2.0 GPA).
  • Must be a current Justice on the ASMSU Supreme Court.

Term: 

  • Appointed by the President-elect in the Spring Semester.
  • Serves a one-year term following confirmation by a majority vote of the ASMSU Senate at the last Senate meeting of the academic year.
  • There is no limit to how many terms a Justice may serve as Chief Justice consecutively.

  • Chair meetings of the ASMSU Supreme Court.
  • Chair meetings of the ASMSU Senate during hearings regarding impeachment and removal of ASMSU Officials, excluding those of the ASMSU Supreme Court.
  • Hold custody of the current and all previous versions of the ASMSU Constitution and Bylaws.
  • Deliver the Oath of Office to all incoming ASMSU Officials, excluding those of the ASMSU Supreme Court.
  • Fulfill the duties set forth by the ASMSU Bylaws.

  • Establish the agenda for each Supreme Court meeting.
  • Convene and chair all meetings of the Supreme Court, keeping fairness, maintaining order, and enforcing decorum.
  • Hold seven regular office hours per week during business hours at the ASMSU office, to be available to work on Judicial business.
  • Appoint Justices to MSU appeals boards as needed.
  • In confidentiality, ensure all ASMSU officials are in compliance with eligibility requirements.
  • Attend all meetings of the Senate unless required to be elsewhere in an official capacity.
  • Serve as a non-voting, ex-officio member of the Administrative Council.
  • Serve, or appoint a designee, as a non-voting, ex-officio member of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
  • Issue or delegate a Judicial Ruling Report when determined necessary.
  • Deliver a summary of the Judicial Ruling Report at the next scheduled Senate meeting.

Description: The ASMSU President is the chief executive of the Associated Students of Montana State University, serving as the official representative of ASMSU and the student body. The President works with university leadership—including Deans, Vice Presidents, the Provost, and the University President—on matters affecting students and represents student interests in state-level affairs through the Montana Associated Students (MAS). The position is elected on a joint ticket with the Vice President for a one-year term, with a maximum of two terms. The position requires approximately 20 hours per week, including occasional overnight travel and a summer intership.

Eligibility Requirements: 

  • ASMSU membership (payment of the Student Activity Fee).
  • Good academic standing.

Employment Start: 

  • Responsibilities of the President-elect begin promptly following the election, including hiring of Program Directors and staff. The full role of the President begins following the swearing in and transition with the out-going President.

Employment End: 

  • First Thursday of May or until the incoming President is sworn in and properly transitioned.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Enforce the ASMSU Constitution and Bylaws.
  • Serve as the official representative of ASMSU and students.
  • Act as the ultimate supervisory authority of the Executive Branch.
  • Act as the hiring and firing authority over all student-hired positions, except for the Business Manager.
  • Appoint the Business Manager in consultation with the Business Operations Manager and Vice President-elect, and nominate the candidate to the incoming Senate for confirmation.
  • Nominate Supreme Court Justices for Senate confirmation and install newly confirmed Justices.
  • Appoint student members to all participating MSU committees.
  • Serve as a non-voting, ex-officio member on all ASMSU boards, committees, and councils as needed.
  • Chair of the Administrative Council and SUB Advisory Board.
  • Prepare, submit, and present Executive Budget Recommendations to the Finance Board and Senate; prepare and administer the Administration budget in conjunction with the Business Operations Manager.
  • Sign or veto all bills passed by the Senate.
  • Recommend legislation to the Senate as deemed to be in the best interests of ASMSU.
  • Presiding over ASMSU personnel matters in consultation with the Business Operations Manager.
  • Attend all meetings of the Senate.
  • Serve as a member of the MSU Budget Council, MSU University Council, Museum of the Rockies Board of Trustees, MSU Alumni Foundation Board of Directors, and Montana Associated Students.
  • Participating in an ASMSU summer internship.
  • Adhere to the ASMSU Code of Ethics.

Description: The ASMSU Vice President serves as the second-highest elected student official, supporting the ASMSU President in representing the student body and overseeing the operations of student government. The Vice President plays a crucial leadership role in student advocacy, event coordination, and the efficient functioning of ASMSU programs and committees. The ASMSU Vice President should be ready and able to assume the role of President in the absence or vacancy of the presidency.

Eligibility: 

  • Must be enrolled at MSU-Bozeman, taking at least one credit and paying the activity fee.
  • Good Academic Standing/above 2.0 GPA.

Employment Start: 

  • Responsibilities of the Vice President-elect begin promptly following the election, including hiring of Program Directors and staff. The full role of the Vice President begins following the swearing in and transition with the out-going Vice President.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Distribution and collection of RSO Funding applications.
  • Preparation of applications for Funding Board review.
  • Uphold all club funding policies
  • Follow MSU's procurement/purchasing policies and the office club spending procedures when helping clubs spend funds
  • Attendance at all Funding Board meetings and will take minutes.
  • Providing Funding Board with weekly updates on the status of club funding.
  • Meeting with funded clubs to provide an orientation before spending of funds.

The Finance Board Shall:

  • Review and make recommendations regarding all budget requests to the Senate
  • Review and make recommendations regarding the annual budget to the Senate
  • Recommend legislation regarding fiscal policy.

Description: The Senators of the ASMSU Senate are the voices of the students to the university and beyond. They work to communicate and advocate for the wants and needs of students to the administration through their positions on university committees and in formal written resolutions. Within ASMSU, they work to ensure that students have the programming and experience they want on their campus.

Eligibility: 

  • Must be elected.
  • Must be a full-time enrolled MSU-Bozeman student (at least 7 credits per semester) or pay the activity fee.
  • e in good academic standing/above a 2.0 GPA.

Term: 

  • 1 Academic year.

Work Schedule:

  • 3-6 hours per week.

Required Qualifications and Responsibilities:

  • Advocate for students wants and needs to the university administration.
  • Work with ASMSU programs to ensure programming students want.
  • Provide oversight of student fee dollars, both within ASMSU and outside of it.
  • Attend ASMSU Senate meetings each week on Thursday at 6 PM.
  • Hold two office hours per week.
  • Do one hour of civic engagement in their college per month to connect with students.
  • Serve on at least one university committee.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

The Registered Student Organization Funding Board will be the primary decision-making body in allocating the student organization fee to registered student organizations.

Mission

The mission of the RSOFB is to allocate funds to registered student organizations to help them meet their goals and enrich the student experience.

Composition

The Funding Board shall be comprised of 6 members. 3 of whom shall be members of the Associated Students of Montana State University (ASMSU) Senate, 2 of whom shall be students-at-large. The RSOFB Chair will be the Senate Pro Tempore, and will not serve as a voting member unless a tie-breaker is necessary. If the Pro Tempore is absent, a temporary chair position will be designated to a current RSOFB member. The Office of Student Engagement will appoint a staff member to serve as advisor to this board. They will not have any voting rights.  The RSO Funding Assistant will serve as liaison between the RSOFB and student organizations by communicating Funding Board decisions and feedback.

Board Appointments

All appointments will be made at the start of the fall semester, which will comprise that academic years’ board.

  • ASMSU seats will be appointed by the ASMSU Senate.
  • At-large seats will be filled by application, collected by the ASMSU President. All applications will be brought to ASMSU Senate for final vote and approval.
  • If RSOFB seats become vacant, they will be filled by the same method for ASMSU seats and At-large seats.

Responsibilities of Funding Board

The Funding Board will allocate two-thirds of the estimated student organization fee at the end of the spring semester (VIM Funding Pool) for student organization activities/programs to take place over the following academic year. The remaining one-third of the estimated student organization funding (Rolling Funding Pool) will be allocated throughout the academic year. All Funding will be allocated based on availability of funds. For Rolling Funding: The Funding Board will review the funding applications from eligible registered student organizations and select the organizations that will receive funding using the criteria stated herein. Funding Board will meet weekly from mid-September through March (with the exception of University holidays, breaks and finals weeks). For Vim Funding: In April of each year, Funding board will award eligible registered student organizations funding based upon volunteer hours logged up to 234 hours per club. RSOFB will also be responsible for reviewing student organization funding policies, application process and any other funding-related issues or changes.

Training/Orientation

All RSOFB members will go through training and orientation, hosted by the Office of Student Engagement.

Voting

Three voting members will represent a quorum and must be present in order to make funding decisions. The RSOFB Chair will serve as a tie-breaker if necessary. Proxy voting by email for the purposes of meeting quorum or application approval between meetings is allowed. Those not in physical attendance have the right to participate by video conference, subject to any limitation established in rules adopted by the RSOFB.

Conflict of Interest

If a member of the RSOFB has a conflict of interest, they must reveal this to the board and are to abstain from voting. Conflict of interest is defined by if a voting member is a leader or member of an organization whose application is under review.

Budget & Allocations

The maximum allowable amount to be allocated to each organization per academic year shall be $1500.00 in Rolling Funding, and $3500.00 in VIM funding based on the prior year's volunteer hours. Allotment of funds will be first come, first serve based upon availability of funds and the level of requests submitted by the registered student organizations. While the RSOFB strives for consistency, a number of factors are considered when approving funding requests. Budget and available funds will fluctuate based on student enrollment.
